Mud Therapy - SPA Resort

A venerated health tradition based on the warm, external application of volcanic or hot springs clay mud to treat certain diseases and injuries, and to promote health and well being - originated with ancient societies located near volcanoes, lakes and the ocean that, after intuitively using mud as a means of body camouflage to blend in with the enviroment, gradually become aware of its therapeutic properties. They observed how this special mud soothed muscular aches, alliviated joint stiffness and pain - later understood to be associated with arthritis and rheumatism - and improved skin contitions. In time, they realized that the earth was offering them a priceless gift.

Mud contains a much higher concentration of minerals than hot springs waters since it is formed by the long-term accumulation of the residues from these waters, which rise to the surface carrying both dissolved and undissolved compounds from deep inside the earth.

At Termas de Chillán's Hot Springs SPA, mud is used therapeutically for:

• Joint problems: To reduce inflammation and absorb edemas
• Muscular problems: To supply Magnesium and Phosphorous, boosting the energy level of the muscles so that lactic acid is eliminated, thus alleviating aches and pains
• Skin conditions: To treat such problems as psoriasis and acne, and to prevent premature aging; nourishing the skin cells with minerals can help to increase their enzymatic activity, revitalizing tissues

Mud contains Magnesium and Phosphorous, which have a tensing effect on the skin - ideal for restoring elasticity and for treating cellulite - and silicates, which help to leave the skin baby smooth.

Fango Thalaterm:

A 30-minute treatment using a special THALATERM capsule. The capsule's warm bath of fango, or volcanic mud, helps draw out and eliminate body toxins, leaving the skin firm and baby soft, reducing stress and relaxing the muscles.

Fango Applications:

A 40-minute treatment in which heated fango, or volcanic mud is applied to specially targeted portions of the body - specially problem areas - to ease sore joints, improve skin tone, prevent rheumatism and arthritis, and alleviate body pains.

Herbal Cataplasm:

A treatment in which special mixtures of herbs are applied directly on the skin for therapeutic purposes. Ideal for alleviating pain, preventing disease, reducing inflammation, and eliminating body toxins.
