Malalcahuello National Reserve
Corralco

Once you get to Corralco, you will be inside the Malalcahuello National Reserve, one of the most beautiful protected places in the country. It is administrated by the National Forest Corporation, institution that keeps a forest ranger at the Reserve all year, giving information and taking care of all species inside it.

Araucarias
Corralco

Scientific Name: Araucaria Araucana.

Location: It can be found in limited areas today, usually by the Andes from Ñuble to the Villarrica volcano, and by the coast only in the Nahuelbuta Mountain chain.

The Araucaria is a typical Chilean tree, evergreen and ever beautiful. It is a big tree, getting to be up to 50 meters tall, with a long, straight and tubular log. Its development is extremely slow, about 1 mm of diameter a year, so it takes it almost a thousand years to be 50 meters of height. Its branches begin very up high in the log, and its shape assimilates an umbrella.

Its leaves are thick, persistent and of a dark green shade, in spiral downwards, wrapping the more flexible branches.

Cordillera de las raíces

There's a new path amongst Araucaria forests and mountains, near the Lonquimay volcano, which is 2.865 meters above sea level. There are different roads that will take you to amazing places and unknown territories, where the Pehuenche people used to live and still go there for the autumn pick-up of the piñón (the Araucaria seeds).

Conguillio National Park

The Conguillio National Park has over 60 thousand hectares of land, filled with protected flora and fauna right by the side of the Llaima Volcano at 3.100 meters above sea level. There are big marks left by the lava of the volcano, which blocked the draining system to Sierra Nevada, several centuries ago, forming the great Conguillio Lake. Sierra Nevada, which is 2.500 meters above sea level, is right by the Malalcahuello village, which means Horse stack in mapudungun (the original language of the area).

Cautín River

Flora and fauna get together to dazzle all visitors, adding crystal clear water and volcanic rocks to a landscape that is unique in beauty and biological importance, right by the Cautín River.

Malalcahuello Thermal Centre

The Malalcahuello Thermal Centre is twenty minutes away from the Corralco Mountain Centre. In there, you can spend a fun day in the mountain, where you'll find eternal snowy hills that are part of the Andes and millenary Araucarias, trees of extremely slowly growth, only here in the South of the world.
